Generally speaking, personal checks that havenât been written or used remain valid indefinitely. Once filled out, however, personal checks may expire within six months. Institutional policies vary, so check with your bank or credit union.
You can cash a personal check at your institution, the issuing institution, or some major retailers. Be aware that additional fees may apply when cashing a check outside of a financial institution.
