The average person may not think of financial services as an especially dynamic industry. There are hundreds of institutions nationwide that have been operating for more than a century, after all. But at Main Street, we know better.
We know that banks and credit unions are facing rapid change. Fintechs and neobanks are upsetting the established order while technology and demographic changes challenge retention. We also know where to go to find the latest insights in an increasingly energetic sector of American life.
Over a busy summer and early fall, members of the Main Street team attended no fewer than six conferences (and one delightful vacation) in search of ways that we can serve our clients better.
Here’s where we went, some of what we learned, and a few snapshots we took along the way.
Event Marketing Congress | Orlando, Florida | July 13–15
Our travels began in Orlando at Event Marketing Congress, where event professionals from across industries gathered to exchange ideas about creating more meaningful experiences.
One of the biggest takeaways was simple: great events don’t happen by accident. Everything from the audience and business goals to messaging, booth design, signage, and giveaways should have a reason behind it. EMC put that principle into practice with thoughtful spaces designed to encourage conversation and collaboration.
Learning from professionals outside our own industry also offered fresh perspectives and new ideas to bring home. For Main Street, that means continuing to approach every event with intention and making the experience worthwhile for the community institutions we serve.

Unbound. Marketing Conference | Boston, Massachusetts | September 16–18
Next up, we headed to Boston for the Unbound. Marketing Conference, where conversations about AI came with an important reminder that new technology doesn’t replace the fundamentals of good communication.
As AI becomes more widely available, distinctive storytelling and an authentic brand voice become even more important. The same goes for personalization. Reaching the right people means understanding more than their names. Timing, context, and the details that make an experience feel relevant can all influence how someone responds.
Another recurring theme encouraged teams to make room for experimentation. Not every test produces a winner, but every result provides an opportunity to learn, adjust, and try something new.

Alabama Bankers Association IGNITE | Huntsville, Alabama | September 16–17
Alabama Bankers Association IGNITE Conference, where roughly 60% of attendees were already Main Street clients.
As the only check vendor and marketing platform provider at the show, we had a unique opportunity to connect with familiar faces while meeting banking professionals from across our home state. Sessions and conversations throughout the conference offered perspectives on the issues and opportunities shaping community banking.
For Main Street, IGNITE was equal parts relationship building, industry insight, and a reminder of the value of staying close to home.

ABA Bank Marketing Conference | Austin, Texas | September 23–25
A week later, Main Street was in Austin for the ABA Bank Marketing Conference, where industry professionals gathered to explore new ideas for communicating with account holders and strengthening connections within their communities.
The conference paired plenty of learning with opportunities to celebrate the people shaping community banking. The Girl Banker brunch was one highlight, bringing together women in banking amid plenty of pink, glitter, and fanfare. Main Street even got in on the fun with a charm bar that proved to be a hit.
Between educational sessions and conversations with banking professionals from across the country, Austin offered another opportunity to learn from the industry while strengthening the relationships that keep us connected to it.

Marketing & Business Development Certification School | Savannah, Georgia | September 28–October 1
The following week brought Main Street to Savannah for the Marketing & Business Development Certification School.
The event brought together credit union professionals for conversations about technology, branding, community relations, and the changing ways financial institutions connect with the people they serve. Just as valuable were the opportunities to trade experiences and ideas with professionals doing this work every day.
Of course, professional development doesn’t have to end when the sessions do. A Savannah ghost tour added a little local history – and perhaps a few unexpected networking opportunities – to a week spent learning, laughing, and making new connections throughout the credit union community.

Circles Design Conference | Grapevine, Texas | September 30–October 2
Meanwhile, our travels took a creative turn at the Circles Design Conference in Grapevine. Through presentations and hands-on workshops, professionals from across the creative industry shared new techniques alongside lessons about developing a sustainable creative career.
One recurring idea was the importance of moving forward even when you don’t feel completely ready. Talent matters, but so do direction, experimentation, and a willingness to keep creating.
The conference also offered a closer look at the creative process itself. From starting logo concepts with pencil and paper to stripping away color so an idea can stand on its own, Circles demonstrated how getting back to the basics can create room for better ideas – and better design.

And One Vacation | Weeki Wachee & Fort Myers, Florida
Not every member of the Main Street team spent the past few weeks inside a conference center.
One journey took us instead through Weeki Wachee and Fort Myers for five days of unplugging, exploring Florida’s western coast, and turning off the work brain for a while. There were manatees, otters, cranes, and, most importantly, some well-earned time to recharge.
The result? A return to Main Street refreshed, reenergized, and ready to get back to work – even if vacation brain hadn’t entirely gotten the message yet. We’ll call that professional development, too.

Staying Connected to What’s Next
These events only scratch the surface of where we’ve been, who we’ve met, and how we’ve grown this trade show season. We crisscrossed the country to meet and learn from industry professionals and creative thinkers of all stripes.
Why? So that we can remain a part of this truly dynamic industry, helping community institutions solve not just for today’s challenges, but tomorrow’s as well.
